Welcome to Jocksta - A selection of digital design work by Roddy Lang.

seafolly has a facelift.

Seafolly have been at the forefront of Australian beachwear for a number of years. The newly redesigned website features a combination of XHTML, CSS and Flash. The website will be redeveloped over two stages with full e-Commerce integration to follow in the next stage of development.

The brand is well known for its unique 'mix and match' of their product range. Flash was used to enable the user to explore this unique feature. The next stage of the project will allow the user to store their preferred product combinations for later use or purchase.

A Bit About Me...

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, I’ve been living and working in Sydney, Australia since August 2008. Previously, I lived in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England for more than 7 years, gaining fantastic experience from the regions leading digital design agencies.

I plan, design and build end-user focused websites and digital media projects. I love new technologies and I love the web. I love its ever-evolving nature and the way it constantly challenges me as a designer.

I'm passionate about my work. I have worked on big brands and I've worked on small, boutique brands. The size and strength of the brand doesn't make a difference to my approach. I'm a humble kinda guy who is just privileged and fortunate to work with such an amazing medium!

Feel like hanging around my little digital space? Truck on to the 'Working' section and have a look around some of my work.

Skills are good. I like learning new things. Here is a summary of the things that I'm good at and the things I'm working on:

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Flash
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Freehand
  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • W3C Standards
  • Javascript
  • Action Script
  • Conceptulising
  • Content Architecture
  • Written Proposal
  • Project Management
  • Strategy & Planning

A few examples of my most recent work. A mixture of XHTML, CSS and Flash projects for you to have a look at. More examples will follow soon:

Whyman Group

The Whyman Group are a leading events management company, based in the North East of England. I designed and built their new website.

CSD Sealing Systems

I designed and built a new website for CSD Sealing Systems, a company with an international presence, specialising in watertight sealing systems.

XHTML / CSS / Javascript

Guerilla Interactive

A new set of digital marketing materials for Guerilla Interactive. This included a website redesign, e-Newsletter and digital credentials.

XHTML / CSS / Flash / Javascript

Life is Better

A promotional website as part of a targeted social marketing campaign highlighting the importance of why you should quit smoking.

XHTML / CSS / Javascript

Numark Pharmacists

An extranet for Numark Pharmacists, serving over 1700 members. A challenging project which I actively project managed as well as designed.

XHTML / CSS / Javascript

Listen To Reason

A promotional website as part of a social marketing campaign. I don't think you can underestimate the importance of raising awareness of smoking cessation.

XHTML / CSS / Javascript

Cockeyed Cards

North East based illustrator, Anna Hall required a Flash website to promote the quirky nature of the Cockeyed Cards greetings cards range.

Flash

I've created one or two illustrations for projects I've worked on in the past:

Crusha

I created a series of characters for the 'Save Our Cities' project. This was the 'bad guy' or 'Crusha' as he was known to others.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Crusha Skycar

Crusha needed a vehicle to travel around in so I created a 'skycar' for him. I designed it to be pointy and mean looking, just like Crusha.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Pitt

Every bad guy needs a good guy to fight, right? This is one half of the good guy duo. His name is Pitt and he doesn’t like Crusha very much.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Puett

And this is Puett, he's Pitt's friendly robot mate and is the other half of the good-guy duo. Pitt and Puett work tirelessy against Crusha and his evil minions.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Pitt's Skycar

I designed the good-guy vehicle so that it looked like the complete opposite of Crusha's car - lots of curvy lines, unlike the angular design of Crusha's.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Stompa

I designed Stompa as sidekick for Crusha. He's a big mechanical robot who likes to destroy things, much like Crusha himself.

Client: NUFC Learning Centre

Feel free to view the examples of my archived work below. There are various examples including some Flash CDROM work:

East Durham Business Service

This was a proposed design concept for East Durham Business Service, with the focus firmly on ease of use.

Uk Sport

I designed an educational website for aspiring young athletes which informed them of the dangers of doping in sports.

The Green Story

This was an interesting project to work on where user generated content was central to the user experience.

EDHC

Proposed design concepts for a website redesign of this North East of England college.

Shell-LiveWIRE

An interactive CDROM packed full of information and advice, aimed at young business entrepreneur's.

NETPark

I've worked in both the private and public sector, gaining some great experience along the way:

Freshweb

Senior Creative

From: July 2008 - Present

I joined North Sydney based digital agency, Freshweb shortly after arriving in Sydney, Australia.

I have been working in the role as Senior Creative on global brands such as Seafolly, Surf FCS, Micros Fidelio, Skins, Sony Home Entertainment and Cyclone Global.

Feel free to visit the website for more information.

Guerilla Communications / Guerilla Interactive

Head of New Media

From: March 2006 - July 2008

I worked for award winning North East agency Guerilla Communications for almost 2 years. In that time, I was responsible for developing a completely new side of the business (Guerilla Interactive) which was setup to provide a comprehensive range of digital services to existing and new clients.

The role of Head of New Media was incredibly challenging. Defining and shaping the direction of a new side of Guerilla was certainly challenging and enjoyable, but not without some pain along the way...

South Tyneside Council

Senior Web Designer

From: March 2004 - March 2006

Having worked in the private sector for a number of years, I decided that I should gain some value experience working in the public sector. This helped to better understand how this area of business operates.

I learned a great deal about web accessibility standards during my time at South Tyneside Council which has benefited me greatly in terms of how I construct my web pages.

Indigo Multimedia

Web / Graphic Designer

From: 2002 - 2004

Indigo Multimedia are one of the North East of England's leading multimedia design companies. Working there proved to be a fantastic environment for developing my design skills. I also realised just how important project management is to the smooth development of any web project.

During my time at Indigo Multimedia I worked for clients such as UK Sport, Connexions, The GERI Project and Adidas.

I get my inspiration from a lot of places. Here are a few examples of where this comes from:
